Felt the need to share again

Here's a piece I originally did for an assignment in my Illustration Studio class. We had to do a mock up of a New Yorker cover in the spirit of Halloween. I liked the outcome so I took the text out and turned it into a gallery piece. It can be viewed here on my artist's blog (it's the newest post):

This is cool. Are those drawn creases on the canvas or are they for real? How did you get such a high quality pic up? Digital camera and good lighting?

The creases are physical textures. I use that a lot in my pieces. The way I do it is I'll take something thin, like in this case tracing paper, and I'll wrinkle, rip it up, or simply lay it down and use matte medium as an adhesive/sealer to give it a nice effect. I'll then draw, paint (normally with washes and dry brushing), or use other media on top of that then.

The reason the picture is so high quality is because it was scanned, and I color corrected it a tad bit in photoshop. I gave it more of an orange tint for the Halloween season rather than keeping the more dull/dreary washed out yellow/sepia tint it had when I originally did it. It does hurts my asshole that the final product is a digitally altered piece . I'm pleased with the outcome though.

All it takes is practice man. Just look at images more so as shapes/objects, and place value where it's meant to be in relation to it's surroundings. You could rock some nice shit in photoshop if you start with a drawing.

Well might as well do a shameless plug. I have a nice body of paintings I'm looking to sell, and I'll also sell prints of them for cheap. All my originals are reasonably priced too. I also do commissions.
